Motion Switch For Bathroom
Suggestions for motion sensor to control bathroom lights?
I currently have a self-contained (ie no radios) motion detector light switch in the bathroom, but it's not great. Often the light will turn off while someone is still in there for example. Are there any good connected solutions for this? Ideally I'd like to use a smart light switch with it, but that isn't a must-have. Thanks.

A very good non-smart solution (assuming the performance is the reason you are looking to change this) are the lutron occupancy switches. You won't have that issue of the light turning off by mistake. Have them in all of my bathrooms and they are excellent.

How do the Lutron sensors avoid cutting off while someone is, say, in the shower? I have one in my guest bath and it's quite reliable at detecting motion/presence, but once the occupant gets in the shower, it starts counting down the timer.
I don't think any motion sensor can solve for this case unless it's looking into the shower.

You need an occupancy sensor separated from the light switch, ideally on a ceiling. Lutron has a sensor LRF2-OCR2B which does not require wiring and can be placed on a ceiling such that it sees the shower cabin and sends a signal to a Lutron switch. I had a very good experience with these sensors.

How long is the timeout? If you have it extremely short, try increasing it to five minutes. It's pretty rare that someone will sit perfectly still for five minutes, so they aren't likely to get left in the dark. This doesn't solve for the shower situation obviously, unless you turn the timeout up so long that it exceeds the likely shower duration.

A little late, but... What if you added a door sensor? If door closed -> keep light on. Else, listen to motion detector. Maybe that only works with a connected motion detector.
